The Chai Tea Latte with Oat Milk was soothing to my soul. One of my favorite hot drinks! The Chia Pudding was crunchy, smokey, and had a luscious texture. The Butcher’s Egg’s Benedict with Fried Chicken was divine. The creaminess of the hollandaise against the crunchy outside crust of the chicken along with the raspberry tomato jam was the absolute best combo of flavors on my palate. I did not speak the entire time while enjoying each bite of this dish, my plate was clean. This is a must try from the menu at The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker.

Alta – West Adams District

The vision of this Soul Food restaurant is from two chefs: Keith Corbin and Daniel Patterson. The menu is influenced by traditional West African food and California cuisine fused with Southern flavors. Every plate that is brought to the table is packed with a steep soulful taste of our ancestral roots. The goal of Alta is to celebrate the inclusivity of a new generation of rising culinary talent. Let’s start with the appetizers and then lead into the tasty main entrees.

Every bite was mouth-watering from the spicy herb sauce to the light sweet creamy texture of the Grits to the earthy broth of the Gumbo and finally, the smokey flavor of the collard greens more than satisfied our tummy’s. We even had the chance to chat with Chef Keith Corbin, about the splendid food he had prepared for us. I’m going back without a doubt, especially for the Black-Eyed Pea Fritters, and try the Pineapple-Coconut Upside Down Cake.

The Sambusa w/ Somali Sauce: veggie, cheese, and potato, chicken were all moist inside, with a golden outside crust. There no need for the sauce but if you love a little kick to your food, then dip into the Somali sauce. The Haitian Macaroni had a creamy cheesy sauce cooked with both tender vegetables and shrimp. The portion was large enough to share with friends or family. The Haitian Marinated Kabrit Plate was a pretty decent size of food. The goat fell off of the bone and the sautéed onions and green bell peppers were the perfect complements to the tender meat. I had plenty of leftovers the next day and it was just as flavourful as the day I took my first bite of food. Starting On July 8th, the cuisine of the month will be Venezuelan and I’m thrilled to explore another authentic global food experience.

G.O.A.T (Avocado Toast): is a slice of toasted ciabatta with honey, goat cheese, avocado, lemon dressing, arugula, red pepper flakes & a fried egg. The choice of ciabatta bread makes this plate of food more filling for a foodie. The creamy texture of the goat cheese and honey cuts through the tanginess of the lemon dressing and the bite of the arugula. The addition of the red pepper flakes creates a hint of heat in the back of your throat. I had a difficult time deciding between G.O.A.T, Shrimp & Grits, and Southern Comfort. I will definitely visit this casual neighborhood cafe again to check out the other two dishes.
