Urth Caffe – Arts District of Downtown LA

Urth Caffe Salad
Photo Edited by: Obdulio Carreras

Light, Simple, Fresh-delectable food… this is a certified organic restaurant, 100% chemical free. There are 7 locations for Urth Caffe and each one is unique in their own design. The fresh aroma of earl grey tea infused with cold pressed oil of bergamot awakened my senses as I entered the Urth Caffe. This restaurant stays true to preserving a health-consciousness platform for the community. All of their bread and pastries are made in house each day.

From the menu, I ordered the Urth Caffe Salad, which you can order either in a half or full size. The Urth Caffe Salad is their most popular dish on the menu! The salad is mixed with locally grown mixed greens, feta cheese, Roma tomatoes, hearts of palm, garbanzo beans, Kalamata olives (with pits), pine nuts, Urth vinaigarette dressing and fresh baked bread. Along with the Urth Caffe Salad, I had a Mixed Veggie Juice, which included carrots, beets, celery and ginger. The Mixed Veggie Juice was quite refreshing due to the addition of the celery and ginger. If you are a supporter of restaurants that use locally grown fruits and vegetables then check out an Urth Caffe near you!

Natraliart Food Restaurant – Central L.A.

Dish 1: Curry Goat w/ beans & rice with plantains
Signature Juice: Beet Root and Carrot Juice
Dish 2: Jerk Chicken Salad

Light, Simple, Fresh-delectable food...My advice…drive slowly down Washington Blvd because I have passed this restaurant a number of times. It wasn’t until I did some research on other Caribbean restaurants and the name of this restaurant caught my attention. I tend to draw towards Caribbean restaurants because I enjoy a lil spice in my life! This restaurant has been in Central L.A. for over 35 years. Their dishes represent authentic Jamaican herbs and spices. The owners of this restaurant make their own fresh fruit juices and some are made with vegetables. This restaurant keeps their flavors traditional, thus bringing Jamaica to Central L.A.

Signature Juice: Pine-Ginger Juice
Dish 2: Jerk Chicken Salad

From the menu, I ordered Curry Goat and I’m a big fan of curry! This dish was served with small pieces of fresh goat meat marinated in a special blend of Jamaican curry herbs & spices with a side of rice & beans and plantains. The Beet Root & Carrot drink was made fresh with a touch of carrot juice, lemon juice, ginger, spices & honey. I cleaned my entire plate and savoured every moment of the Beet Root & Carrot drink because it was perfectly balanced in flavor. My aunt ordered the Jerk Chicken Salad, the chicken was moist and tender. The spice level of the meat was perfect the crunch from the fresh levels balanced out the jerk chicken. For her drink she ordered the Pine-Ginger Juice, which had pineapple, ginger and honey!

From the warmth of the owner, the traditional Jamaican spices in the curry and to the fresh Beet Root & Carrot juice, I was a happy customer. 35 years in Central L.A. and this restaurant proudly represents Jamaica.

Ackee Bamboo Jamaican Cuisine – Leimert Park

Vegetarian Plate w/Callaloo (Greens)

Light, Simple, Fresh-Delectable food… who loves Jamaican Cuisine?! If so, check out this restaurant. Located in Leimert Park a neighborhood in South Los Angeles. Leimert Park represents the historic and cultural hub of the African American Community. Ackee Bamboo Jamaican is one of many restaurants in Leimert Park. This restaurant is family owned and that since of family is present as soon as you enter the restaurant! From their menu, I ordered the Vegetarian Plate w/ Callaloo (Greens). The dish was served with rice & Peas, steamed vegetables, plantains & festival bread. The festival bread is sweet and essentially it is a Caribbean dumpling that is fried. All of the components of this dish, were simply fresh and delectable. With this dish, I had a fresh Coconut as my drink! Coconut water is my favorite, simply refreshing!

Light, Simple, Fresh-delectable food….The decor of the Lyfe Kitchen is go-green! It is very spacious and they even grow their own herbs such as tarragon, cilantro, lemongrass, bergamot, oregano, dill and many others. I ordered the Garden Burger (vegan cheese) with a marinated kale salad and a Ginger Pomegranate Lemonade. I tasted LYFE in this dish!
